As many of you know, Emmy and I will be competing in our third Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac this week, on our boat, Endeavour, along with 4 of our friends. The Mac is one of the longest running and most prestigious fresh-water sailing races in the world. For more information on the Race, check out the Race's website,www.cycracetomackinac.com
or follow it on Facebook athttps://www.facebook.com/ChicagoYCRaceToMackinac
or Twitter @RaceToMackinac.
We depart Chicago on Friday July 12, 2013, at 3 pm. Our section of boats is called "Cruising 2" - about 20 boats of roughly similar speed and characteristics. Other racers start on Friday and Saturday as well. We expect to arrive on Mackinac Island sometime on Monday July 15 or possibly Tuesday July 16. If you're interested in following along, you can track our progress in one of two ways:
1) The official race tracking, available via the Race's website, www.cycracetomackinac.com; or
2) Our personal tracker, which you can see here: https://share.delorme.com/0159244304994f4cb8447015a7a4fa34
We'll also be posting to Facebook and Twitter during the race; follow us at https://twitter.com/endeavoursails or https://www.facebook.com/Endeavour52974. Updates will NOT go to Emmy's or my personal pages, so please follow us on one of those two for the boat.
Finally, on the Race's official website and Facebook feed, my friend Winn Soldani will be providing frequent "color commentary" about the race. It's an excellent way to understand more about the sport of sailboat racing and better understand what's happening with the race. Attached is a 'fan's guide' which tells more about these different methods of tracking the race.
Let us know if you have any questions!
Matt & Emmy
PS For our Chicago-area friends: On Saturday, July 13, the racers start their race (Emmy and I start the day before). Immediately before that there is a parade of boats held past the end of Navy Pier in Chicago, from about 10 am to 2 pm. Our Club holds an event in conjunction with Michigan Avenue Magazine to highlight the race and the parade of boats. It's a fun event, especially on a nice day. I wanted to pass along information on it in case you or your family might be interested in attending. More info and a link to RSVP is at http://www.upshiftcreative.com/ashorething/ . There is no cost, it's open to the public, and it is family friendly for anyone with kids, but you should definitely RSVP.
